PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AT THE FARM
Meaningful learning. Fresh air. Real connection.
The Farm and Forest Education Center offers hands-on professional development experiences that invite educators to step outside, reconnect with the natural world, and discover practical ways to bring outdoor, farm-based, and place-based learning to their students.
Our workshops combine meaningful professional learning with the joy and restoration of spending time outdoors. Programs can be customized for schools, districts, teaching teams, and organizations.
🌱 Taking Learning Outside
Building confidence for outdoor teaching
Outdoor learning doesn't have to be complicated. Educators explore practical strategies for moving lessons beyond classroom walls, managing groups outdoors, encouraging student curiosity, and using the natural environment as a meaningful part of teaching and learning.
Participants leave with approachable ideas they can begin using with students right away.
🐓 The Farm as a Classroom
Connecting agriculture, science, food, and the environment
Experience the farm through the eyes of a learner. Participants explore how gardens, animals, food systems, and seasonal changes can become rich starting points for inquiry and interdisciplinary learning.
Hands-on experiences may include harvesting from the garden, interacting with farm animals, exploring food systems, and preparing something together from ingredients grown on the farm.
🌳 Wonder, Curiosity & Place-Based Learning
Letting the environment inspire the curriculum
What happens when we begin with what's right in front of us?
Through exploration, observation, discussion, and hands-on activities, educators experience strategies for using a local place—whether a schoolyard, garden, forest, neighborhood, or farm—to inspire meaningful learning across science, social studies, literacy, and more.
🍎 From Farm to Table
Using food to connect people, place, and learning
Follow food from the soil to the table through an interactive farm-based experience. Educators explore gardening, agriculture, food systems, seasonality, and ways food preparation can create authentic opportunities for learning and community building.
Depending on the season and workshop, participants may harvest ingredients, prepare a simple recipe, or create something to take home.
🌿 Adult Farm Camp
Professional learning with a little joy built in
Sometimes educators need an opportunity to learn, connect, play, and recharge.
Adult Farm Camp combines some of our favorite Farm & Forest experiences—animals, gardens, woods, food, creativity, and community—with reflection on why experiential and outdoor learning can be so powerful for both children and adults.
This workshop is especially well suited for staff retreats, team-building days, opening-of-school gatherings, or end-of-year celebrations.
